This work is an experimental self-portrait inspired by cubism's ability to abandon the single viewpoint perspective now carried out into the contemporary and produced in a digital format. Conceptually this work is concerned with my cultural identity and subsequent perception of that identity through an “Orientalized” lens. I immigrated to the US in 2005, as an immigrant there is a laborious attempt to understand oneself when your sense of place, community, and belonging is disrupted, but even worse is the perception and lack of understanding an individual faces.
The fabrication process for this project involved sharp geometric cuts using an engineering water jet glass cutter. In production I used a Canon EOS C100 camera and employed Adobe Premiere Pro for post-production editing.
